Which hair dyes work?
Virtually every brand dye, shampoo, treatment or oil that is liquid enough for a conventional hair dye bottle works well in The Hummingbird®. We’ve tested the following brands and they are Hummingbird approved. Don’t see yours? Just ask us, via our contact page and we will let you know.

Mix in ratios of 2.1 or 3.1 developer to bleach to create a more liquid consistency. Add developer to bottle first, then bleach and stir before shaking for best results.

A good rule of thumb, if the color works in a bottle, it works in the Hummingbird®, including any vivid, pastel or fashion color.
Not suitable are dyes that come packaged in a tub or those from a tube that become very thick after mixing. If you can pick it up with your hand and it doesn't run off, it's not for the Hummingbird®
Tip: Some direct dyes can be slightly diluted to work in the Hummingbird by adding a tsp of water at a time and shaking to incorporate with the mixing cap until the desired consistency is reached. Then put on the applicator beak and apply.

I love this applicator. I was also worried about the clean up..is it really this easy?
Yes ! I followed the instructions for clean up and it's easier than my regular color bottle. I only use it for liquid demis but really happy so far.

I always bleach and dye my hair from home and the hummingbird make it 10x easier to properly bleach my roots. It took a little practice so don't expect the first time to be perfect! But I love this thing either way
